Astrol Girl on YouTube

The guys that make the Astro Girl: American Heroine film have uploaded a great scene of Astro Girl in action. In this scenes she is fighting a small gang of men and takes them all out before lifting one of them up in the air with her amazing super strength.

A great watch:

  1. It’s called a ‘movie’.

Superman Returns had scenes where HE was subjected — dare I say beaten and tortured — after being subjected to Kryptonite. Why does THIS turn your stomach so much? Cause its a woman? In terms of ‘hard core disgusting stuff’ this is pretty tame stuff, especially considering what region its from.

It pretty much comes close to ‘as violent as I like it’ but I cannot see why you crusade so passionately AGAINST this company/film (extra time on your hands?). Have you actually seen it? I mean all of it?

Production-wise and effects-wise, AstroGirl 1 is probably the best thing I think I’ve seen and that includes Awakening (though van tipping scene is still the best snipet IMO), Girl of Steele, ProjectSuperwoman, New-Goddess, etc.

AG was probably Zen’s attempt to mimic (obvious ripoffs to several SM Returns scenes) a true ‘superhero movie’ with a female lead, which seems to be different from their ‘normal offerings’ (peril). Perhaps they were testing the waters to see what response it got. In that case, we should encourage their efforts for more THESE kinds of films, not just scream “disgusting” from the mountaintops and trying to get them to NOT make the other ones. Cause its not gonna happen!!

In the end, its a business for them. $$$$ talks and if people buy it (its #2 in worldwide sales for them currently), we’ll prob see more of them.

I bought it and recommend it. If don’t like it, don’t buy it.

  2. Well, I was talking about that clip, rather than the movie as a whole. I’m willing to take JonX’s word for it that the movie as a whole is worth seeing.

Since I don’t have the right kind of computer or software, however, I can’t download Astro Girl in any case; and $75 is a hell of a lot for one DVD — plus I’d have to get a new player.

But, knowing nothing more than what I can read here or see in their trailers, I’m not at all happy with Zen Pictures. Some people here paid their hard-earned money and got nothing. As far as I know, none of them got an answer when they e-mailed the company.

As for the peril thing, I suppose it must make a difference to me that it involves a woman. It also bothers me that, to judge by the trailers, Astro Girl 2, Steel Angel and other videos of the sort are primarily peril. Well, heroes — not just superheroes: take James Bond in CASINO ROYALE — get abused a lot. But the audience isn’t expected to enjoy it, whereas I get the impression that the audience for these videos IS expected to enjoy, and even derive sexual pleasure, from the sight of the superheroines being abused.

I’m all for encouraging any efforts at making better superheroine films, and if Zen Pictures would only market this one in a format I could use — as do the makers of animé, which has been a huge success in the U.S. — I’d buy it in an instant. I wouldn’t buy the others that seem to be repulsive. If enough people did the same, it would send the right message. But they don’t seem to be making it easy.

  3. Fair enough points!

Now if they aren’t returning emails (ironically much like the Steeles and others pay sites around here), that’s just bad customer service, and you are entitled your $$ back or at least some tech help.

Regarding them ‘not making it easy’, I ordered the clip with the mentality of “caveat emptor”. The order page was clearly ‘translated japanese’ and doesn’t make ordering that simple, so have a little wiggle room.

I downloaded the sample and it ran. I then downloaded the vids and while it did take a few ‘trial and error’ clicks, it worked fine for me, and I’m HARDLY a computer expert!

Translation from double byte symbolic languages is sketchy at best, but at least there was an outlet for it. Steeles, Projectsuperwoman, JonX (no offense) don’t support Japanese I reckon, so a tab bit of leeway and understand is necessary.

Incidently, maybe the messages DID get through, at second glance, it looks like they revamped their ‘English Site’ and is a little easier (at first glance to follow)
